We are all different - thank goodness! GREAT work is about activating the best in our team mates - ensuring that our learning and working is strength-based while inviting each of us to also rehearse our abilities to excel with other styles beyond our own natural propensities in ways that build personal versatility. The idea is that if we know ourselves along with knowing others, we appreciate their differences and are able to work with them without much conflict, creating positive benefits for tasks, projects and the community at large.

Assumptions:

  1. Knowing your style increases success and ease in learning and working
  2. Communicating your styles to others increases collaboration success
  3. Styles are preferences in the use of abilities, not abilities themselves.
  4. Matching styles and abilities creates synergy that is more than the sum of its parts.
  5. Life choices need to fit styles as well as abilities.
  6. People have profiles (or patterns) of styles, not just a single style.
  7. Styles are variable across tasks and situations.
  8. People differ in the strength of their preferences.
  9. People differ in there stylistic flexibility.
  10. Styles are socialized.
  11. Styles can vary across the life span.
  12. Styles are measurable.
  13. Styles are teachable.
  14. Styles valued at one time may not be valued at another.
  15. Styles valued in one place may not be valued in another.
  16. Styles, on average, are not good or bad -- it's a question of fit.
